The 24th workshop fair “Werkstätten:Messe 2009” will be held in Nuremberg from 19th to 22nd March. Over 220 exhibitors have already registered to present products and services of German workshops in exhibition hall 12 of the NürnbergMesse. [more]

In February, the German Parliament adopted a package of measures meant to stimulate and to support the national economy – the so-called “Second Pact for employment and stability for Germany”. Some of the measures layed down in this pact have repercussions on workshops for adapted work and persons with disabilities employed in them. [more]

In January 2009, BAG WfbM learned about the draft revision of part A of the German Construction Contract Procedures (VOB/A) from 25 November 2008. Surprisingly, paragraph 6, section 1, no. 3 included a passage stating, that non-profit organisations should be excluded from the award of public contracts. This phrase would have severely disadvantaged and partly even threatened workshops for adapted work and integration projects in their existence. [more]

The minister for education of the Federal State of Lower Saxony, Elisabeth Heister-Neumann, has suggested to discuss the development of special education in Lower Saxony in the Committee for Culture and Education of the State Parliament. The debate should take into account the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. [more]

The inequality of wealth distribution in Germany has risen sharply from 2002 to 2007. This is the result of a recent study carried out by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) Berlin on behalf of the Hans Böckler Foundation. The study also shows that the differences between Eastern and Western Germany continue to grow. [more]

Persons with disabilities working in workshops for adapted work are entitled to receive a major share of the complete revenues produced. At least 70 per cent of the overall turnover must be paid directly to them as remuneration. [more]

The “Ecological Project for Integrated Environmental Technology”, or “Ökoprofit” in short, was developed in Austria at the beginning of the 1990s. Ökoprofit is a cooperation between municipalities and the local economy which aims to reduce operating costs while trying to preserve natural resources (including water and energy). [more]

In 2007, the financial benefits for employees in workshops for adapted work continued to decline. According to the Federal Association for Rehabilitation (BAR), payments for integration services have been reduced by 3,8 percent in 2007 in comparison to the previous year. [more]

The research report "The development of admissions to workshops for persons with disabilities", also called ISB study, has been published by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The study analyses the reasons for the significant rise in admissions to German workshops for adapted work during the last few years. [more]

On Friday, 28 November 2008, a new BAG WfbM Board was elected. The four-year term of the previous board had expired. The highest body of BAG WfbM – the assembly of delegates – elected the new members of the Presidency and then the new Executive Board. Günter Mosen, was re-elected as chairman of the Board. [more]

On 13 November 2008, the debate on the draft resolution on supported employment has been concluded. In comparison to the original proposal, the Committee on Labour and Social Affairs recommended several changes. [more]

Who we are
Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Werkstätten für behinderte Menschen e. V. (BAG WfbM) is the political representative of sheltered workshops in Germany. We represent 93 % of all German workshops. All public welfare organisations and religious denominations work jointly in our organisation.

Our task is to give expert advice on questions related to employment, vocational training, financing and legal issues. Additionally, we are actively involved in the legislation process. BAG WfbM promotes for the participation of persons with disabilities in working life.
