Launch of new Social Agenda in 2008
In 2008, the European Commission will launch its new Social Agenda. It will focus mainly on three topics: the first one is Europe’s social reality. Based on today’s society, visions of the future will be developed.

Secondly, the agenda deals with economic and social cohesion. This topic is of considerable importance as it accounts for about 35% of the overall EU budget. It covers various issues, such as anti-discrimination, unemployment, people with impairments and living conditions in poorer areas of the EU. Cohesion policy aims to achieve decent living standards for everyone in the European Union.

The third topic is the reform of the EU budget. This also concerns the social policy, as it will be decided, how much money should be spent on which topic.

The Commission wishes European citizens to express their views and opinions and to participate in the development of the Social Agenda. On the Commission’s website externer Link, citizens have the possibility to discuss questions and ideas. The link remains active until February, 15th 2008.
