What structures and attitudes are needed to integrate more persons with disabilities into working life? This fundamental question was addressed during a two-day conference on the participation of disabled persons in Croatia. Experts from the United States (U.S.), Germany, Austria and the neighbouring countries of Croatia met in Zadar to deal with the topic.
In this context, appropriate structures for the development of the employment of disabled persons were on the agenda. As representatives of BAG WfbM, Stephan Hirsch and Thomas Umsonst presented a large scope of participation in working life for persons with disabilities in Germany. Based on current social legislation, participation opportunities in special settings as well as on the open labour market were introduced.
The present representatives of the Croatian government were particularly interested in the German workshop regulation which was also available in Croatian. Some of its elements could possibly be used for Croatian legislation in our sector.
