Paralympics Stars Campaign for an Active Lifestyle
From 2nd of June to 20th of September 2008, the BG Clinic Tour demonstrates what impressive achievements are possible in sport despite a disability. The BG Clinics are the clinics run by the Accident Prevention & Insurance Associations in Germany. Sport can give the courage to face life and improves the quality of life - this message has been successfully passed on by athletes with disabilities, who are participating in the tour of emergency hospitals. At eleven locations, persons with disabilities and the interested public have the opportunity to directly approach nine Paralympic stars.

As ambassadors of the tour, the athletes aim to encourage an active life. Furthermore, they want to show the possibilities of modern rehabilitation as proposed by the emergency hospitals as centres of competence. Their slogan "Go for Paralympics" refers to the Paralympic Games 2008 in Beijing. The German Federal President, Horst Köhler, has taken over the patronage for the tour.

The field reports of the Paralympic athletes are part of an extensive programme which is organised at each station. Thus, visitors can learn more about training programmes, personal hopes and ambitions of the athletes for Beijing. In addition to the top athletes, well-known personalities from politics and the media will attend the tour events.

In 2008, the BG Clinic Tour has started with a Paralympic star array in Hamburg: Martin Braxenthaler, Gerd Schönfelder, Kirsten Bruhn, Holger Nikelis, Heinrich Popow, Manuela Schmermund, Natalie Simanowski and Michael Teuber came as ambassadors of the Paralympic sport to the local emergency hospital. During the past Paralympic Summer and Winter Games, together they have won a total of eleven gold, four silver and seven bronze medals. Olaf Scholz, Federal Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, opened the tour event.
