Werkstätten:Tag 2008 - Federal Congress of German Workshops for Adapted Work
From 24 – 26 September 2008, the Werkstätten:Tag 2008, the Federal Congress of Workshops for Adapted Work, will be held in Bremen. It will be the largest Werkstätten:Tag of all times. More than 100 speeches, lectures and working groups will be held over three days, more than 2.200 participants are already registered. Federal President Horst Köhler has taken over the patronage, the Federal Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, Olaf Scholz, will address the participants. Mechtild Rothe, Vice-President of the European Parliament, will attend.

Many participants registered even before the detailed programme for the second congress day, the day of the working groups, had been distributed. Once the program was available, the number of applications rose significantly. BAG WfbM asked much of potential participants, as a programme of 44 pages had to be worked over for the second day. The participants were certainly spoilt for choice among appealing offers and prominent names.

If you are interested in participation, it is now high time to register: The deadline for registration into the working groups on the second congress day is 29th August 2008, so only few days remain. You can find the complete programme of the congress under www.werkstaettentag.de externer Link. The registration procedure is as simple as could possibily be: The necessary forms can be easily downloaded here externer Link and returned by fax to the BTZ, the Tourist Information Centre Bremen, which is responsible for the registration procedure.

On the second day, the working groups will take place in three different locations. At the University of Bremen the working groups will be held only in German. They cover the topics of education, people in workshops, legal and economic rules as well as public relations. The working groups will take place in three time blocks from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Each participant can choose his individual programme for the University out of more than 50 topics.

At the Congress Centre Bremen, the Workshop Councils Day is aimed at workshop councils, the union workplace representatives, as well as at all others interested in this topic. The beautiful location offers the appropriate framework. In addition to the discussions, several breaks also offer opportunities to socialise. A nationwide forum for workshop councils – something that has never occurred so far in a comparable setting.

The European Day will take place in Bremerhaven. This event will be opened at the German Emigration Centre Bremerhaven, which also alludes to German history. On the European congress day as part of the “Werkstätten:Tag” 2008, participants will share the different experiences of their European neighbours.

But the biggest and most important federal congress in the history of German workshops must also be celebrated: Therefore participants can choose between two major events on the evening of the second congress day. On the one hand, the well-known comedian Pago Balke will perform at the Congress Centre Bremen with his orchestra.

Those who prefer to get together will best be suited by the dancing and dinner at the pavilion Bürgerweide. Located directly in front of the Messe Bremen, there will also be the possibility to “shake a leg”. The music group “Squeeze” from Northern Germany will perform “best ofs” from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

Bremen sends its regards. The beautiful city and LAG:WfbM Bremen, the Federal State Association of Workshops for Adapted Work, have strongly supported BAG WfbM during planning and implementation of the Congress. Many thanks to the city of Bremen! We hope that some participants are going to extend their stay to the weekend or beyond. Because Bremen is certainly worth a trip!
